From Xiahe to Tongren

Between Gansu & Qinghai provinces in the ancient Tibetan kingdom of Amdo, come with us discover the gigantic outdoors and the altitude pastures on this route linking the two big monasteries of the region: Labrang in Xiahe (Gansu) and Repkong in Tongren (Qinghai). From endless grasslands to dry mountains landscapes, passing by remote monasteries and old fortified villages, these five trekking days between 3000 and 4000m altitude will offer you a complete glimpse of the Tibetan atmosphere.

Itinerary:

​

D1: drive from Lanzhou to Xiahe (2900m).

​

D2: visit Labrang monastery, the biggest Gelugpa monastery of the region.

​

D3: acclimatation day in Ganjia grassland. Visit of a 2000 year old fortified village, a Bön monastery and a place dedicated to sky burial.

​

D4-D5-D6-D7: raid trek from Xiahe to Tongren. 100km in total, many pass crossing, all between 3500 and 4000m altitude.

​

D8: last trekking day, we arrive in Tongren for lunchtime. Visit of Repkong monastery and Thangka institutes (Tibetan art).

​

D9: transport to Xining, visit Shachong monastery on the way.
